I am genuinely horrified by the care my dog received at this office. Unfortunately this is the short version of my review.
Long story short, my dog has some health issues. It’s a chronic problem we’ve been dealing with for years and we’d been working with a vet prior to moving here. Sometimes her symptoms require a vet visit.
One about this vet is even if you call first thing in the morning, your chances of getting a same day appt are at best 50-50. This tells me they don’t hold sick visits for patients, and that isn’t a fit for my dog. No harm done here, but I knew we’d be looking for a new vet next year.
My dog had an allergic reaction several months ago. When I called, I was told to give her Benadryl and call back if the symptoms didn’t resolve in a week. Her symptoms persisted, so I called back. At the time of her visit, Dr. Crystal told me I should not have given Benadryl because this medication doesn’t work for dogs, then tried to upsell me on a dental visit despite this having nothing to do with her sick visit. (Her teeth are fine — we confirmed with the new vet)
Unfortunately, my dog had a GI flare in August which required veterinary intervention. We saw Dr. Ben David for this. The three weeks following this appointment made me schedule a visit to establish care with a new vet immediately. I have broken down the series of events here:
On 8/7, we discussed the possibility of ME, including a vague discussion of possible medication and lifestyle changes should she receive a diagnosis. I received an email about a prescription that was sent for my dog. I received no counseling regarding a prescription (and did not fill it as a result — thankfully, given that my dog came back completely clear of this diagnosis)
On 8/11, my dog had an x-ray. I was told I would get a phone call the next day. A staff member called on 8/12 to tell me the vet would reach out on 8/14. I did not hear back until 8/17, when we discussed obtaining blood work. I was quoted $123.
On 8/21 we returned for blood work. After labs were drawn, the front desk informed me the cost was $305.75. I questioned this, as this was not the cost we agreed upon. The tech told me this was for tests that were added. No new tests had been discussed with me and certainly hadn’t been authorized by me. I was told this was for a GI Panel, which I agreed was fine.
On 8/28, we saw an internist who informed me we’d need a GI panel. I asked if she had received the labs DVH sent over. She had, except no GI panel was included. This prompted a series of calls, when I learned a completely different test than what was discussed was completed on 8/21.
I requested a refund for the unauthorized test. I was told I would receive a call from DVH once I provided them with my availability. I provided this, but (imagine my surprise) never received a phone call. The craziest part is had they explained the test to me and told me it was necessary for basically any reason, I would probably have agreed. Instead, they tried to just did what they wanted and thought I wouldn’t question it.
For anyone who chooses this office, I sincerely hope you never experience what it’s like to deal with them when you have a sick pet. I would NEVER recommend anyone go to any veterinarian at this office. There are other well qualified vets locally that I am certain can and will provide better and more empathetic care.
I can't say enough good about this place. Dr Tamaki, Dr Crystal, Jaden, Amanda, Lorrie, and everyone is so kind and patient. I've cried a million tears over my elderly dog that they took such amazing care of while we were trying to determine when to let him go. Dr Tamaki and Lorrie especially took such good care of ME! When the decision was made, they were so compassionate and respectful of our wishes for him. We have two cats that we continue to take to Dr Tamaki and could never fathom going anywhere else. If you want top notch care from people who love your babies like you do, this is definitely where you want to be.
